I think that may be the same region my son attended a wine conference in June. I hope you have as great a time as he did!

Raindom is a nice mix of random/raindog

My RGT: the kind of day that reminds me why I moved to NYC.

Overdid it the last couple of days and planned to rest today. Slept eight hours straight (hallelujah!) and then took a solid two hour nap. Woke up to find an hour-old text waiting. Friend has an extra ticket to see the Amalric documentary about John Zorn which is premiering in the US this weekend at the New York Film Festival at a fancy theater at Lincoln Center. I'd totally forgotten about it - heard about it six weeks ago but I was too distracted by all my own shit going on and 100% forgot. Check the time. It's in two hours. I'm in bed, unwashed and undressed. Ugh. Maybe he already found someone else to take it since I didn't respond. I'm tired and sore. But. I've wanted to see this film for ages. I say yes, is it still available? Yes! I drag myself out of bed.

Ninety minutes later I have rushed to Lincoln Center, hair still wet from the shower, am being introduced to the director and editor of the film, and the director personally hands me a free ticket. (Turns out when my friend said he had an extra, he meant extra spot on the guest list.)

And then it turned out my friend and his girlfriend and I were all in the movie.

To think I was just going to nap all afternoon.

There's a documentary about John Zorn-- and Sarah's in it? :!:
This I gotta see!

Me and my friend's girlfriend were just in audience shots of various live shows. There was footage from at least two shows I was at (Nova Express at the Stone, and the Dreamers at the Village Vanguard). But my friend was actually in it for real and he even got pointed out by the director during the Q&A afterward. :) He's a recording engineer and they had footage of him and JZ working together in his recording studio.

The coda to my perfect NYC day... I went to a Steven Bernstein concert tonight and instead of the usual drummer in the band they had a substitute, Kenny Wollesen, who was in the Zorn documentary quite a bit. After the show I was outside checking something on my phone and I hear "Hey Sarah!" and it was Kenny, coming out with all his gear to catch a cab. I had a perfect conversation starter... "Hey, you were in the movie I saw today!" :D We had a nice little chat about it while walking to 6th Avenue.

ETA: I just checked my footage and I'm pretty sure the documentary used about 1 second of video that they got from my Youtube channel... hahaha. As soon as I saw it I had a feeling it was mine. Then they said in the Q&A that they used some short bits from Youtube. And the footage matches exactly including being not-quite-horizontal because I was propping up my camera on some random object in the Metropolitan Museum..

Does that mean you'll be in my neighborhood? :)

Let me know if you need anything / want to say hello / etc. I'm not too busy this week.

What a wonderful thread.

Nice story, Sarah. Hope you're enjoying the US, Hat.

Italy was great. Unfortunately I got sick for half of the stay, but I really, really enjoyed the rest.

Sorry to hear you got sick. But so glad you still had fun.

We are not really night owls so are stomping on the hard pavements of New York during the day, and sleeping at night, like real cool people..

Soon our short stay will all be over.

Love to you all, I hope your leg is healing well Sarah.
