Wow, cool! He and John Zorn can hang out sometime and compare notes on what it's like to be an officially recognized Macarthur Genius. :)

Wonder what he'll do with his half a million bucks...

Eels sets new album release date at the 5th February.

Quote:
Eels have set a February 5th release date for their new studio album "Wonderful, Glorious." We were sent these details:
The ever-changing project of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett (aka E), Eels recorded Wonderful, Glorious at Everett's new Los Feliz, CA studio. Dubbed "The Compound," the new space invigorated Everett's writing process.

"It was exciting," he says, "it filled me with hope for limitless possibilities. And I realized I'd had a similar feeling when I first put the band together for the last two tours." The band, which features guitarists The Chet and P-Boo, bass player Koool G Murder and drummer Knuckles, all had a hand in the writing of Wonderful, Glorious.

"The only rule I had was 'let's try it,'" says Everett. "If anyone in the room had an idea, I'd say 'let's try it.'"

Tracklisting:
1. Bombs Away
2. Kinda Fuzzy
3. Accident Prone
4. Peach Blossom
5. On The Ropes
6. The Turnaround
7. New Alphabet
8. Stick Together
9. True Original
10. Open My Present
11. You're My Friend
12. I Am Building A Shrine
13. Wonderful, Glorious

I hope that it is better than the last eels album (which name I forgot).
E still owes me the 15 euros I wasted on that album...

Bryan Ferry - The Jazz Age - out November 26

Bryan Ferry does instrumental 20s style jazz numbers of his old hits. Sounds great to me!

Wo hoo! great news, one of my favourite albums of all time is his "As Time Goes By" record from 19999covers of standards from the 30s and 40s)i absolutely love it! disappointed theres no vocals but im sure this will be great too,he has a real talent for this style of music imo

My first reaction too. But then I listened to Don't Stop the Dance and saw the interview with Ferry and now I think I understand the reason for this. This isn't just "jazzing up" his hits. He's actually trying to re-imagine the compositions as if they had been written and performed at that time. And I think that would have been much harder to do with vocals, the risk is it would just have wound up sounding funny. Like Max Raabe, which I like, but in the end what Raabe does becomes mostly an amusing gimmick. Anyway, I think it's a quite brave commercial decision, the potential buyers of instrumental 20s jazz can't be too many, even if Bryan Ferry is behind the project.

:D Indeed.....surprised he was even allowed, but since even a "proper" album from him wouldnt sell a whole lot anymore anyway id say the record company said "yeah fuck it do what you want",or maybe he agreed to making a more commercial album for them next or something,im sure he had to strike some kind of deal anyway, who knows?......its great to see him being "brave" again,he gets far too settled into a M.O.R style most of the time, hope he does more stuff like this

New Daniel Norgren album on the way.

Daniel on Facebook:

"This is Love! I’ve built him out of a typewriter case, a radio, cables and parts from a fork-lift, tube-pedals and a busted Dynacord-amp and I’ve used him a lot for the recording of a new album ”Buck” that will be released somewhere in the beginning of 2013!"

What would be cool is if they compiled video and audio interviews of the man so his words and voice could be heard by those that weren't there the first time...
