So I ma heading to NOLA in October with my wife and another couple. I have a few places in mind to check out but I was wondering if anyone could suggest a few places to check out...? Maybe a few bands that might be playing around then? Anyone live out that way and want to meet up?

Cheers,

Paddy-

I have been to NOLA several times and I would try to see concerts iat Tipitina's, The Howlin' Wolf and the Rebirth Brass Band and the maple leaf Bar. I guess Tuesdays is the night to, if they are in town.

I usuallly stay away from the French Quarter since there are IMO better parts in town. It's like Vegas a one time deal and than it get's boring, etc.

But I am sure there are some hidden gems in town....and there are very often free concerts in the NOLA , ususally with very good musicians

Enjoy your trip to NOLA. I live about two hours north in Mississippi and my husband and I go at least a couple times every year. The garden district is really nice and relaxing. I really dislike the French Quarter, but every now and then I enjoy going to Jackson Square. One of my favorite watering holes is a place on Saint Charles called (surprisingly) Saint Charles Tavern. It's a great greasy spoon/bar. You can access it via the street car line.

I was there last summer. I loved the clubs at Frenchmen St. There are good shows every night.

Maybe you can check the Offbeat magazine website:

have fun!
