I always like looking back on the year and seeing what still stands out, also a good time to see what others liked that i may have overlooked.

1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
2. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie and Lowell
3. Father John Misty - I Love You Honeybear
4. Viet Cong - Viet Cong
5. Joanna Newsom - Divers
6. Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment - Surf
7. Wilco - Star Wars
8. Vince Staples - Summertime '06
9. Destroyer - Poison Season
10. Modest Mouse - Strangers to Ourselves
11. Sleater Kinney - Bury Our Friends
12. Bjork - Vulnicura
13. Buena Vista Social Club - Lost and Found
14. Daniel Norgren - Alasbury
15. Benjamin Clementine - At Least For Now

No real order, but I would say Kendricks album was by far my favourite and the "Best" I listened to this year.

What did you guys like this year?

I'm terrible about year-end album lists... I don't buy that many CDs total and I never remember what came out which year.

But, I'll try... things I've enjoyed in 2015:

Aram Bajakian's "Music Inspired by the Color of Pomegranates" - Maybe my #1 of the year, hard to say as it's quite new. Sparse, lonely solo guitar, really blew me away.

Jason Isbell "Something More than Free" - really good album, maybe not as good as the last one, but really good

Glen Hansard's "Didn't He Ramble" - really nice melancholy songwriting, and such a great vocalist.

Erik Friedlander released two really nice albums, "Illuminations" (if you liked "Volac" you'll like tihs... if you have no idea what "Volac" is this is really amazing minor-key solo cello stuff); and "Oscalypso", with an unusual lineup of cello/sax/drums/upright bass. Only listened to that one 2x so far but I like it - has a nice swing to it.

Brian Carpenter & the Confessions "Far End of the World" is excellent, fun-yet-dark, slightly unusual (how many nyckelharpas have you heard this year?) and recommended for the Cave/Cohen style songwriting fans

Dave Douglas Quintet "Brazen Heart" - just some really solid jazz.

Klezmerson (playing John Zorn's compositions) "Amon" - really fun Mexican klezmer crossover band, great rhythms.

Marc Ribot's "Live in Tokyo" with the Young Philadelphians is not his best album but it's a lot of fun and surprisingly silly. (And you'll all remember this band as being the one where I got hit in the face with two halves of a broken drumstick, back in the day... ;) )

There are a few new ones I haven't listened to yet in my "to be listened to" pile so I may be leaving out some gems. And maybe some I just forgot. But it's my best shot :)

I can only think of four albums that I've bought that were actually released this year, but I may be forgetting some.

These are very good though:

Jason Isbell: Something More Than Free (agree with Sarah's take on this one, very good album)

Richard Hawley: Hollow Meadows (discovered Hawley this year, and I've been listening to him a lot)

Mark Lanegan: Houston (released this year, but old stuff, outtakes and such. Very good.)

Monoswezi: Monoswezi Yanga (came across this in Dublin recently, my cousin's band, haven't listened enough to it yet. My impression so far is that it's good, but not nearly a good as the last one. I need to listen more to this one ...)

I probably haven't bought many released in '15 either & they'd probably be mostly artists no one would know except for Rickie Lee Jones. Her new one, The Other Side Of Desire is just wonderful. Under rated & over looked I'd say.

Think I only bought three this year, Alabama shakes one, and a couple of Patti Smith live ones when at the gig, one from Italy, one Berlin. Both signed, yay!

YES!

The next one in the series that I think will be equally fun is the Spike Orchestra's "Cerberus," but I haven't gotten it yet. Hopefully it will be a late addition to the best-of-2015 list. I think I will pick it up this weekend.

My album of the year is probably Sam Baker's "Land Of Doubt"

The Roger Waters album came out this year, surely?

Then that's my favorite.

Oh, and The Tower, from Motorpsycho. Those are the only ones I can remember coming out this year.
(Surely that RW album came out in 2017? It must have!)
