Get the early stuff you are missing. It's harder Cave and somewhat American Western.

Also, Birthday Party Live.

Let Love In and Henry's Dream would be my vote for what you should get next :)

Kicking Against The Pricks is the album that first got me interested in Nick Cave. A covers album with some wonderful and very unusual interpretations. "Hey Joe", for instance, is transformed from a slightly menacing rocker to a truly scary descent into the mind of a murderous psychopath:

But, perhaps I'm not the right person to ask. I've always felt that Cave as a songwriter is a bit too pretentious for my taste and slightly ridiculous. So of course I would prefer a covers album. :P

Tender Prey, The Firstborn is Dead, Your Funeral, My Trial, and Henry's Dream and Let Love in are all magnificent.

Tender Prey and Henry's Dream would be my recommendations, but buy them all!

You all have far too much Nick Cave. Nick Cave is a talentless poser. Drive to the nearest tip with anything with the name Nick Cave on it. He makes Tom Waits look 100% sincere, and that's not easy.
