Hey guys I was looking thru my music collection and I realized I have every genre of music except for jazz, which i've been meaning to delve into for sometime. So if you guys could give me maybe your top 5 jazz cd's i'd appreciate it.

most of the jazz that I listen to is solo piano, but I've got a few miles, mingus, etc. that I like. here's five.

Brad Mehldau "Live in Tokyo"
(get the japanese import if possible)

Miles Davis "Miles Smiles"

Thelonious Monk "Monk Alone: The Complete Columbia Solo"

Vince Guaraldi Trio "Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus"

Billy Hart "Quartet"

some under the radar stuff, ok, that's really more like what I consider jazz, I don't really listen to the old jazz guys that much, and a lot can fit under the "jazz" moniker for me. I don't really know any guitarists besides gypsy jazz stuff, billy hart (from my post above) is a drummer.

Will Holshouser Trio (accordion, trumpet, double bass)

"Reed Song"
&
"Singing to a Bee"

Rob Burger

"Lost Photograph"

Angelo Debarre and Ludovic Beier (Gypsy Jazz)

everything they've done is great, but if you want titles, here's two...

"Swing Recontre"
&
"Entre Amis"

Sex Mob

"Dime Grind Palace"
&
"Sex Mob Does Bond"

Jamie Saft Trio

"Trouble - The Jamie Saft Trio Plays Bob Dylan"

still love the old stuff, Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, never liked jazz guitar that much, for me it's blow your horns and hit those keys cats!

Kessel not shown in the clip, is cool though

I do believe Kind of Blue by Davis is probably the best place to start to get into jazz.

One of my favourites is Herbie Hancock's Cantaloupe Island.... very great indeed.
