All of his albums are to be re-issued on vinyl over the next 2 or 3 months. I've only got about 4 holes left to fill in but that is fantastic news, his stuff is a bugger to find.

Saw "20,000 Days on Earth" the other night and enjoyed it immensely. Nick looks great, and Warren Ellis is entertaining enough to deserve his own film.

I woke up not long ago and read this. What a nightmare. My heart breaks for parents that lose a child

Nick Cave's son dies after Brighton chalk cliffs fall

Family pay tribute to Arthur Cave, 15, who was airlifted to hospital after walkers found him on coastal path but later died of his injuries

The teenage son of musician Nick Cave has died after falling from the top of the Brighton chalk cliffs.

Arthur Cave, 15, was airlifted to hospital on Tuesday evening after walkers found him on the coastal path at the foot of the Ovingdean Gap, 60ft below the clifftop. Members of the public attempted to give him first aid.

His death is not being treated as suspicious. Nick Cave and his wife, Susie, paid tribute to Arthur, who also leaves behind his twin brother, Earl, in a short statement confirming his death.

“Our son Arthur died on Tuesday evening. He was our beautiful, happy, loving boy,” it read. “We ask that we be given the privacy our family needs to grieve at this difficult time.”

A Sussex police spokeswoman said: “A 15-year-old boy who was found with life-threatening injuries on the underpass of Ovingdean Gap, having fallen from the cliff above, has sadly died in hospital on Tuesday.

“Members of the public carried out first aid on the boy before he was taken to the Royal Sussex county hospital, Brighton, just after 6pm. He later died there of his injuries. The death is being dealt with by the coroner’s officer.”

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “Newhaven coastguard were called by Sussex police to attend a report of a child who had fallen from the top of the cliff.”

Nick Cave, 57, is best known as the lead singer of the alternative rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, which he formed in Melbourne in 1983. One of the most enduring musicians of the 80s, he has collaborated with acts including Johnny Cash, the Flaming Lips and PJ Harvey.

Cave had four sons, two from previous relationships as well as Arthur and Earl.

Cave married the model Susie Bick in 1999. Bick had featured in Vivienne Westwood campaigns and was on the cover of Cave’s 2013 album Push the Sky Away. The family live in central Brighton, about three miles (5km) from the spot where Arthur was found.

How shocking, and how awful. I feel bad for the family. Hope the media gives them some privacy at this sad time.

How horrible. More horrible that I ever want to try to imagine. I have a 15 year old boy myself ...

I've been absolutely heatrbroken since I heard the news. To be honest I think I'd have been less upset if it was Nick himself falling off a cliff. I can't stop thinking about the absolute nightmare they must be living. How does one move on from something like this. And yet, I hope somehow they do and pull together as a family and shine again like crazy diamonds.

Heard via a music-industry friend that Nick Cave was in the studio this week recording something for Hal Willner. (Folks here might know Hal W. from the Rogues Gallery and Son of Rogues Gallery compilations that Nick + Tom + a bunch of other cool people were on... he is a producer who puts together a lot of interesting compilation albums like those.)

Glad to hear Nick is back to work, for his own sake more than anything, hope himself and his family are doing well (or as well as can be expected)

I bought tickets to see the movie in September. They show it one night only in Haarlem.
What was it called again? Once more, with feeling? Something like that.
Expect it to be tough.

I have tickets for the Barbican on the 8th Sept. I'm sure it will be a tough watch.

Andrew Dominik's comments (http://www.nickcave.com/news/director-a ... e-feeling/) on the film shed some light over the seemingly counter-intuitive move of putting a film like this out there against the background of such tragic personal circumstances for NC, which one would think he'd want to keep as much as possible out of the public domain and discourse. NC's own explanation for it - that he "had some things he needed to say, but he didn’t know who to say them to" - really resonated with me. I get it. Those who follow his work and have therefore the pretension of at least imagining an understanding of his psyche will welcome some insight into what Dominik describes as "the basic state of things". For anyone who cares about his work this will also be a sort of solution for the "forward movement" issue, which at the moment seems like an impossibility, whichever side of the equation one may be. "Forward movement" is certainly a more realistic objective than closure. A word carefully and understandably avoided in all press coverage (and yet, how much work, musical or visual, will NC want to put out there delving openly into this subject matter? - as I see it, this will probably be it, although we're clearly threading in uncharted territory).

The big question for me is, will we find Nick Cave, as we know him, still behind his skin, to use his language, or will we be mourning the disintegration of the persona we've been following and presume to know? And does it even make sense to mourn for someone/something who might, in essence, not ever have existed outside our own psyche (as a projection of our own desire and identification)? In summary: it's thoroughly fucked up. I'm not having fun and I just need to hear from the man himself. And for the tiny kernel of understanding the film may shed over the situation I'll be forever grateful. In a sense, those who follow NC closely will also have changed (in how we related to him and his body of work) as a result of these events. And, as it seems clear neither him nor ourselves particularly wanted to. "Not really".

Musically, I suspect the new album will be as difficult as the film itself, to some extent. Maybe with little in the way of classic melody and a lot of dark dissonant pensive piano and raging violin by Warren Ellis. Or maybe we'll be presented with a more Biblically wrathful sound a la Grinderman, interspersed with classically beautiful, fragile, hopeful (?) melody. Wouldn't be surprised if a couple of more instrumental pieces sounded like some of Cave/Ellis' recent film scores either. We shall see... Bets are off that's for sure.

A very thoughtful and articulate post. Thanks for expressing it so well, BV.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, although it makes me feel a bit morbid to say so.
